Here is a short list of some of the books I’ve found useful in my exploration of yoga. It is by no means a complete list, but it’s a good start. More to come later.
Practice
Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual, David Swenson
Philosophy
The Shambhala Guide to Yoga, Georg Feuerstein
Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, B.K.S. Iyengar
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: Translation and Commentary, Sri Swami Satchidananda
Bhagavad-Gita, Many translations are available–I like the Barbara Stoller-Miller translation, but try to find one that resonates with you.
Anatomy
Trail Guide to the Body, Andrew R. Biel and Robin Dorn
Anatomy of Movement, Blandine Calais-Germain
Anatomy of Hatha Yoga, H. David Coulter (Disclaimer: This book is really only for true anatomy nerds. It puts most people to sleep. However, it is full of juicy anatomy tidbits which I personally appreciate very much, which is why I have included it on this list.)
